Day one hundred sixty-five of my 365 Day Writing Project.
Words: 500
I almost killed someone today. Seriously. I almost offed one of my main characters. But I panicked and stopped writing at the clutch moment. I felt too conflicted about whether or not this character should die to continue writing. The last sentence I wrote tonight left the story hanging with this character possibly dying or surviving. It could go either way.
I’m laughing as I write this post because I literally panicked. I was writing on my merry way when the plot twist idea came to me and then I nearly broke into a sweat. It was an unplanned plot twist of great proportions and I chickened out. So I am putting it off until tomorrow to have time to think more about it. Lame, I know. And let this be a lesson the next time you are faced with a plot dilemma: Don’t panic. It just leads to procrastination.
If a characters death shocks the author, it must shock the reader. Swing that blade, pull the trigger, mark that page & end them – your story will be richer.
(& if its not, you can edit them back later 🙂 )
