Day 65 – When you need a boost in the story

Day sixty-five of my 365 Day Writing Project.

Words: 500

Get ready for some whining. I hit a low point in the story today that left me wishing I could just jump to the next chapter. Maybe it was because of the lull in action after the car chase (see yesterday’s post). Maybe it was because of the somewhat boring content of the moment. Maybe it was because of my general exhaustion and desire to go to bed. Whatever it was, it left me practically devoid of motivation to write tonight.

I did my best to make the most of it, but as I kept falling asleep at the keyboard and waking long enough to write a few more sentences of less-than-stellar story line, I called it a night after about 500 words. Believe me, it was the right thing to do.

When I pick it up again tomorrow I’ll be in the same place in the story and fighting the same battle. It’s a dull section of the book and needs something to spice it up. Honestly, I just want to move on to the next chapter, for which I have big plans. So why not just end the current chapter as quickly as possible and move on? Well, for one, because I don’t want to end it at a dull point. For another, because I think the story needs to evolve completely and not skip parts just to get to the good stuff. I need to find a way to make the current section more appealing.

I know I can do that, but not when I’m exhausted and falling asleep every few minutes. I’m looking forward to a better day of writing tomorrow. With any luck tonight, I will dream of ideas to boost the story between now and the next chapter.

On another note – day 65. Only 300 more days to go.
