Day 46 of my 365 Day Writing Project.
Time: 1.5 hours
Words: 1,050
I had a goal to write at least 1,000 words today but I struggled to get there. I made it and promptly quit for the night. The only thing that kept me ticking along was the unexpected appearance of a new character. And I think I’m going to like this guy. He is very different from the other two characters I have been focusing on for the last few chapters. Ironically, this new guy is bringing the other two closer together at a time when they are having trouble getting along. Tensions are high. New guy is rude and indifferent, doesn’t like to wear pants and is surprisingly helpful. He has also turned out to be a hoarder. A big one.
All it takes is a new character or a quirky change in the plot to breathe new life into a story. For the writer, such a change can breathe new life into her motivation and desire to pound away at the keys. I’m too tired to go beyond my 1,000 word goal for the day, but I am going to bed excited to pick up with the pants-less hoarder again tomorrow.
Congrats on the new character, and don’t be too hard on yourself: 1,000 words is a solid day of writing, especially when you’re working full-time and raising a family!
